Is this still happening for you? Do you mean that you can't even move
the menu selection up/down? And you are sure this goes away if you
remove the entry from /etc/fstab?

Title:
Boot in recovery mode fails due to bad mount

Status in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  When I include the line:

  //some-network-path     /mnt/backup          cifs
  rw,acl,user_xattr,_netdev,password= 0 0

in my fstab, ubuntu fails to load in recovery mode.

I select the recovery mode option from grub. Shell prompt begins to
load. It reaches the menu with options like "continue to boot as
normal" "repair installed packages" "login as root" or whatever but
then hangs - does not accept keyboard input. Bug seems to occur even
when //some-network-path exists (i.e. I can mount the drive
  successfully using 'mount -a').

  Output from uname:
  ubuntu4366:~> uname -a
  Linux ubuntu4366 2.6.31-19-generic #56-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jan 28 02:39:34 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux

  Output from lsb_release:
  ubuntu4366:~> lsb_release -rd
  Description: Ubuntu 9.10
  Release: 9.10

It seems to occur also with linux 2.6.31-17 and linux 2.6.31-15

  Regards,
  Chris
