The problem here is indeed that libc6-amd64:i386 shares the linker with
libc6:amd64, and removing it causes Very Bad Things to happen.

I'm looking at clever ways to work around this insanity.

Bug description:
  I just did apt-get autoremove on my trusty system and it removed some
  libc packages. I thought they were some old versions and trusted
  autoremove, but now my system is completely broken...
