[Bug 1317278] [NEW] Failed up upgrade to 14.04 when setting sources

Public bug reported:

I attempted to update to 14.04 from 13.10 (both 32 bit) on a desktop
that I rebuilt running only Ubuntu. Each time the installer did the
same - told me that it was turning off a couple of third party sources,
then when establishing new sources (stage 2 of the upgrade process, it
told me that it failed).

While I am a newbie to Ubuntu (only been running it on 3 laptops for 18
months) this is a recycled PC, inherited from my father-in-law, that I
totally over wrote with 13.10. This is not a dual boot machine and I
cannot understand what I have done wrong.
