You appear to be using an Intel fakeraid setup.  Fakeraids are a kludge
to work around the fact that Windows can not boot from a raid array, and
it is not well supported in Linux.  If you aren't going to dual boot
with Windows, you would be best off blowing away the fake raid in the
bios utility and using pure linux software raid.  That said, if you do
want to stick with the current setup, you need to set the installer to
install grub to the whole raid array ( /dev/mapper/isw_eaiiijafgc_ARRAY1
) rather than one individual disk ( /dev/sda ).

  Have tried install on several occasions but fails on grub install

Status in “grub-installer” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Fails on grub install /dev/sda failed 'This is a fatal error' My
  system is a dell dimension 9100 previously running XP which I have now
  deleted. I can load trial ubuntu on usb but install fails every time
  because of above bug. I have run boot-repair but still fails on same
  error. Help Ubuntu is latest version
