Title:
  Can't install 'ubuntu-desktop' during upgrade from 10.04 to 12.04

Status in update-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  During distribution upgrade (10.04 to 12.04) from update manager
  (approximately at "Setting software channels" step) I got an error
  dialog:

  Can't install 'ubuntu-desktop'

  It was impossible to install a required package. Please report this as
  a bug using 'ubuntu-bug update-manager' in a terminal.

  This is similar to bug #40552, which was closed as won't fix.
  Although, 10.04 is not supported, I report this issue because the
  behavior is different. It is actually better. I don't get the
  additional dialogs and it is possible to continue in installation.
  However, the original reason for problems is still here and the
  question is if this issue will repeat also for 12.04 to 14.04
  transition.

  Adding files from /var/log/dist-upgrade/ as attachments as requested
  (at least main.log, term.log is empty and Launchpad allows me to add
  only one attachment for initial report submit). Correction: system
  adds files automatically, so noting that the added main.log is after
  continuing the upgrade for a while.
