Your USB stick contains a mix of packages from both vivid and wily.  You
need to wipe the stick and start fresh when switching releases.

Title:
  Loaded 15.10 which failed. Attempted to reload 15.04 and it will not
  rewrite grub

Status in grub-installer package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  I first attempted to upgrade 15.04 to 15.10 which failed half way
  through making a mess of 15.04. When I attempt to reinstall 15.04 from
  USB, it makes it to the grub install and fails.

  I attempted to reinstall 15.10. It completed the install, but still
  does not work. Will not roll back to 15.04.
