Bug description:
  Binary package hint: autoconf

  I experiment with GCC 4.5.0. For that I need autoconf 2.64. There is a
  Synaptic Package 2.64-2 that seems to fill my needs, however I can not
  install that without also including the main Lucid Lynx package
  2.65-3ubuntu1.

  When compiling the newer version is used, making the build collapse.

  The same is true for automake. There I need version 1.10 which I
  cannot install without also getting version 1.11.

  I would advice to install an automated check if an older package is declared dependent on a newer version of the same package.
  Someone might have had a very inattentive moment, but given that it happens with two related packages at the same time I suggest to look for an error in a script somewhere.

  Another possible cause is that the older autoconf is made dependent on
  the newer automake and the older automake dependent on the newer
  autoconf, ending with a loop if you draw it as a dependency graph,
  because both newer packages are of course also dependent.

  All of this happened since installing Lucid Lynx.
