So it sounds like it is the installer that trims the extended partition
to only be large enough to contain the existing logical partitions.

Bug description:
Installing appears to change partition layout when not expected
Booted with zesty iso.
Opened gparted (start.png attached)
Extended sda1 to take up whole of drive, completed without error
(changed.png attached)
Installed zesty to a partition.
Rebooted into a current install and ran gparted - which shows the
extended partition no longer using the whole of the available space
(zesty.png attached)
