Public bug reported:

Today, my Ubuntu 17.04 Laptop didn't start because it couldn't anything
to boot (it still worked like charm yesterday). I tried to use boot-
repair from a Live-USB-Stick with Ubuntu 17.04. Boot-repair said
something about missing EFI-stuff and wanted to write it to the
beginning of the disk. Because I didn't know whether that was the place
of my /home-partition, I instead tried to reinstall Ubuntu leaving my
/home-partition as is and just formatting the /boot- and /-partition.
Installation asked my, whether I wanted to continue in EFI-Mode possibly
giving away the possibility to boot into existing BIOS-installation
(which don't work anyway at the moment). I said yes and after installing
for a while the installation process stopped telling me again, that the
EFI-stuff didn't work properly.
