Public bug reported:
I've installed Ubuntu-server on a raspberry pi 3. That's my first Ubuntu
install, previously I've always used Raspbian. Anyway, my impression was
that ubuntu was seriously sluggish compared to raspbian.
Turns out that one of the main things is that the login through ssh runs
a whole bunch of update-notifier scripts that take a while (5-6 seconds
in my case).
After disabling most of the scripts in /etc/update-motd.d, the Ubuntu-
raspberry is now pleasantly fast. (It is now copying files. Hopefully
it'll finish this month: a WHOLE lot of files.... :-) Yes the estimate
of a month is realistic.)
ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04
Package: update-notifier-common 3.192.1.7
ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-1041.44-raspi2 4.15.18
Uname: Linux 4.15.0-1041-raspi2 aarch64
ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.7
Architecture: arm64
Date: Mon Aug 5 12:33:36 2019
PackageArchitecture: all
SourcePackage: update-notifier
UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install)
modified.conffile..etc.update-motd.d.90-updates-available: [inaccessible: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/etc/update-motd.d/90-updates-available']
modified.conffile..etc.update-motd.d.95-hwe-eol: [inaccessible: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/etc/update-motd.d/95-hwe-eol']
