I have a similar issue running Ubuntu 24.04 on a Thinkpad T410S which
also has the Intel i5 560M processor and 8GB RAM. This is a fresh
install and after a few minutes use the computer freezes. I had problems
with the install from a USB stick and was only able to get through that
using "safe graphics mode".

Bug description:
  Upgrading my Thinkpad T510 from Kubuntu 23.10 to 24.10 worked fine but the system freezes after some minmal activity with the kernel 6.8.0-36-generic.
  No chance to check any log files or check for other issues. System freezes completly.

  Booting with advanced options and choosing the old 23.20 kernel
  (version 6.5.0-28-generic) works perfectly fine.
