Title:
GRUB2 fails to launch Windows 10 in dual boot setup
Status in grub2 package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
After upgrading to Kubuntu 24.10, or after a fresh install of Kubuntu
24.10 (including after a fresh install of Windows 10), GRUB2 is no
longer able to launch the Windows 10 entry, failing with "error:
cannot load image".
To reproduce:
Install Windows 10 with Secure Boot enabled (or get a machine with an existing Windows 10 installation)
Install Kubuntu 24.10
Reboot
Select the Windows option in the GRUB2 boot loader.
Expected behaviour:
Windows 10 is launched successfully.
Actual behaviour
Get a message "Error: cannot load image", then a message saying "Press
any key to continue". At this point GRUB2 is in some kind of corrupted
state and can't launch ANY of the items successfully, necessitating a
restart of the machine.
