Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
review all reported bugs in a timely manner.
Ubuntu 20.04 (focal) reached end-of-standard-support on May 29, 2025.
The Ubiquity installer is now unmaintained as it has been replaced by
either the 'Ubuntu Desktop Installer' or 'Calamares' starting with the
Ubuntu 24.04 LTS release. So this bug report is being closed as
'Invalid' as the reported issue will not be fixed.

Title:
No login to Ubuntu possible when setting a password starting with #
during Ubuntu installation
Status in ubiquity package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
Hi all,
just installed a fresh Ubuntu instance.
During installation I set a password for the user starting with # ('#').
After finishing the installation I tried to login. No login possible.
After the second installation (to make sure that there was no typo during setting the password), the login was still not possible.
After the third installation, using a password not starting with # ('#'), the login was successful.
After successful login, I changed to password to a password starting with # ('#'), rebooted the system and the login was successful.
Meaning there seems to be a bug, when a password starting with # ('#') is set during the installation process.
Sry, I had no time to have a look into the sourcecode, might be some "escaping issue"....
Ubuntu version used: ubuntu-20.04.3-desktop-amd64.iso
Description: Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS
Release: 20.04
Pleas let me know if I can help fixing this issue.
Thanks in advance & Greets
Benji
