I suggest getting an inexpensive dummy dongle to leave connected.

This headless problem is not universal to all manufacturers; I just know
it can happen on Dell.

  "fwupdmgr update" silently fails to make any update

  Invalid

Bug description:
  My Wyse 5070 running noble has an update to system firmware pending
  but "fwupdmgr update" silently fails to make the actual update.  I am
  going through the steps including reboot and after the reboot, the old
  firmware is still the one present.

  $ fwupdmgr update
