Hi Frank, the warning
         WARNING:
         Disk /dev/dasda is online on operating system instances in 12 different LPARs.
         Ensure that the disk is not being used by a system outside your LPAR.
was introduced some few years ago. I complained about the misleading and concerning wording - but I wasn't able to get this feature changed.
It's a warning, but should be treated as info only.
And "online" means, it is visible to other LPARs, not necessarily enabled in the LPAR (or even mounted!!!).
If you need more details, please ask on the Linux s390x mailing list.

         WARNING: Your DASD '/dev/dasda' is in use.
... most likely by the installer - I suspect.

Not sure, whether fdasd is still the tool of choice. AFAIK, parted is the preferred tool meanwhile.
But the question is, why does this method work with xfs, but not with ext4?
