Interesting -- this is something I need to investigate for resolute,
certainly (I'd tested that resolute *booted* under TFTP, but not whether
the flash-kernel mechanism worked under tryboot).

Can I just check one thing: do you have autoboot.txt available to TFTP?
Ordinarily, that's the file that tells the bootloader to look for a
[tryboot] section in config.txt as opposed to the tryboot.txt file
itself, but I can't recall if the bootloader attempts to read that when
TFTP booting.

I'll try and dig into this next week.

Title:
piboot-try netboot looks for tryboot on tftp share and boot loops

Status in flash-kernel package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 25.10 (GNU/Linux 6.17.0-1006-raspi aarch64)

When the system netboots and there is a new firmware to test from an
initrd.img update, the flash-kernel fails with error 'TFTP 1: file
/tmp/mnt/sda/rpi5boot/tryboot.txt not found for 192.168.0.1' and moves
to the next boot choice. If netboot is chosen manually from a boot
  menu, it just loops.

The system has not created a tryboot.txt file in that folder. I notice
that it also does not check a subdirectory based on the MAC address
for a config.txt file as opposed to a normal boot.
