I'm not a lawyer either, so will have to check internally.  My understanding
is that the goal was to enable that kind of usage of the library without
binding the application that merely uses the library into having the
same license.

I'm pretty sure we can sort something out, otherwise there'd be no point
in releasing it as LGPL rather than GPL. Let me get in touch with the
people within Canonical responsible for that area to see what's the
best way to make that happen.
