Thanks for the clarification.  

If you do it the way I had suggested in my earlier message, you'll probably get
a warning that /etc/modprobe.conf exists but doesn't INCLUDE /etc/modprobe.d on
boot.  I did some reading myself after that and found out that /etc/modprobe.d
is the preferred location for Ubuntu (although I think from memory that the
modprobe man pages seem to suggest the opposite is best).

At the same time it might cause any kernel loadable modules to be skipped on
boot which could cause you all manner of problems!
