I can confirm that this did the trick for me. I placed the Option "AGPMode" "4"
with my Radeon's "Device" section:

Section "Device"
    Identifier  "ATI Technologies, Inc. Radeon Mobility 9000 M9+ (RV250)"
    Driver      "ati"
    BusID       "PCI:0:16:0"
    Option      "UseFBDev"      "true"
    Option      "AGPMode"       "4"
