The performance problem is mostlikely related to ESD and i suggest to open a
separate bug for it (package esound).
All the other problems related to alsa/esd are userland related. hotplug is
slow. indipendently or not. I have 4
usb audio card connected here and yes.. it takes eons more to load. People are
working on making it faster.
The real kernel problem here is the OOPS. did you remove the usb audio device
while in use when you get the OOPS?
Also please always disable nvidia e ndis to reproduce the test. Given that we
can't verify how binary drivers modify
the kernel, we have no way to know if they can be the cause of the problem.
