I have debugged this based on the guide found here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingRemovableDevices

Martin Pitt stated that I got a "pretty low-level problem" and asked me to file
this to a bug report here:

The drive has 2 partitions: a NTFS partition and a FAT32 partition. I have of
course kept all the debugging info in case more is needed.
