Summary: Toshiba Tecra A4 Network Interface Problems
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: linux
AssignedTo: ben.collins at ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: gtaylor at clemson.edu
QAContact: kernel-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com
Out of the box, the only thing currently "working" on the Tecra A4 is the
wireless ethernet interface. This works for a while then begins to fail due to
firmware errors:
ipw2200: Firmware error detected. Restarting.
This results in my network connection going up and down repeatedly. The message
is repeated as the interface flickers. An improvement over older Breezy releases
is that the Yukon Marvell is actually detected during the installation and half
set up as eth0, wireless being eth1.
With my Wireless being in shoddy shape, I set out to raise my wired NIC which is
now supported by the sk98lin driver. I get this when raising eth0, my wired NIC:
Ignoring unknown interface eth0=eth0
Looking in /etc/network/interfaces, I see no entry for eth0. Adding one then
trying to raise the interface leaves me with working wired ethernet connection.
The only funky thing is in the dmesg output when raising the device I see:
duplex mode: half
Would be nice to have this full duplex by default.
So to sum it up, firmware errors with Wireless _still_, Wired (eth) Marvell
Yukon not being configured by default.
