@ Gabe - I believe you're correct.  Using an Aspire One D250, I get the
error less frequently than I did when I first reported, but it still
occurs, and is still not reproducible.  I'm not sure whether it's a
video glitch, but when the problem occurs, I always lose the
Evolution/Empathy/et al icon on the panel.

Problem does not invite instability, as has been stated.
