This installer:
ftp://ftp.i3d.net/Games/Enemy%20Territory%20Quake%20Wars/Patches/ETQW-
client-1.5-full.x86.run ran fine on Ubuntu 9.10 ext4. I installed Lucid
from scratch, and the installer was failing to start:

vadi at vadi-laptop:~/Downloads$ ./ETQW-client-1.5-full.x86.run
bash: ./ETQW-client-1.5-full.x86.run: No such file or directory
vadi at vadi-laptop:~/Downloads$ strace ./ETQW-client-1.5-full.x86.run
execve("./ETQW-client-1.5-full.x86.run", ["./ETQW-client-1.5-full.x86.run"], [/* 38 vars */]) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
dup(2) = 3
fcntl(3, F_GETFL) = 0x8002 (flags O_RDWR|O_LARGEFILE)
fstat(3, {st_mode=S_IFCHR|0620, st_rdev=makedev(136, 0), ...}) = 0
mmap(NULL, 4096, PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE, MAP_PRIVATE|MAP_ANONYMOUS, -1, 0) = 0x7f7b05b4c000
lseek(3, 0, SEEK_CUR) = -1 ESPIPE (Illegal seek)
write(3, "strace: exec: No such file or di"..., 40strace: exec: No such file or directory
) = 40
close(3) = 0
munmap(0x7f7b05b4c000, 4096) = 0
exit_group(1) = ?
vadi at vadi-laptop:~/Downloads$

It was properly chmodded and etc, nothing worked. Finally started it by
creating an ext3 partition, mounting it via loopback, copying the file
into it and starting it.

There were no typos in the filename and it was being launched from the
proper directory.
