Hi Jeremy !
During my attempts to work around the problem I tried adding radeon.modeset=0 to my boot params.
This solves the issue as it was in karmic, now I can use 1024x768 on both screens (mirror) without a problem.
Again, I would love to know if there is any information I can extract from here to make another attempt with the KMS on.
