I can confirm that there is still a problem on 9.10, To be completely
open, my machine now has a Radion graphics card installed compared to
when I first noticed this problem.

 With 9.10 default settings the machine now boots (with defaults) OK but
once the desktop appears there is no mouse. In fact, once the option
screen goes, the mouse does not light up at all.

I tried acpi=off and got the same behaviour.

I tried noapic and this seemed to fix it - that is I got a keyboard and
mouse and could do useful things like run a game. Seemed OK - but all I
did was run a game for a few minutes.
