ubuntu-10.04-beta1-desktop-i386.iso on usb:
boot, wait(purple screen), kernelpanic.
boot, press space bar, first option, kernel panic 
boot, press space bar, F6, replace quiet splash with acpi=off noapic pnpbios=off,(white scrolling text) normal startup.

workaround still works. 
(the minimize-expand-close buttons are on the left now? why?)
