Sadly :-)  it now works fine for me.  Plug N900 in, press "Mass Media"
on the N900 and a few moments later the main memory of the N900 mounts
and appears:


/dev/sde on /media/Nokia N900 type vfat (rw,nosuid,nodev,uhelper=udisks,uid=1000,gid=1000,shortname=mixed,dmask=0077,utf8=1,flush)


I guess a recent update of the Lucid repository has changed something.
