[Bug 549930] [NEW] System header files missing in default locations

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Some system header files are not contained in directories /usr/include resp. /usr/include/linux 
Instead they are only to be found in /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.24-*/include/linux

This applies to e.g. sys.h. or zlib.h, but might apply to several others
as well.

This causes programs which - rightfully - expect to find them in
/usr/include or in /usr/include/linux to fail to compile.

I regard this to be a bug, and would propose to correct this situation
in the next maintenance release of Ubuntu 8.04 LTS.

Obviously, there is a workaround by creating appropriate links by hand;
but it's equally obvious, that this is a dangerous thing to do when
failing to update these links with system upgrades.

I'm using release Ubuntu 8.04.4 LTS, kernel version 2.6.24-26-generic,
on i686 32-bit hardware.
