I'm facing similar simptoms as MacRules.
The system is an Olivetti 820 notebook running lucid from a Live CD. After using Fn volume +/-, the keyboard locks and open windows cannot be moved or resized. Also, the upper menu bar becomes non-responsive.
I have tested eight different distros, but the only two that work for me are Ubuntu 8.04 and Trisquel 2.2.2. This two are the only that use xorg 1.4.0.90.
