I don't have rendering problems in Google Earth anymore on Ubuntu 10.04
64-bit running current ubuntu kernel:

Linux version 2.6.32-25-generic (buildd at yellow) (gcc version 4.4.3
(Ubuntu 4.4.3-4ubuntu5) ) #44-Ubuntu SMP Fri Sep 17 20:05:27 UTC 2010
(Ubuntu 2.6.32-25.44-generic 2.6.32.21+drm33.7)

I used the "nomodeset" before as workaround.
