I have similar HW:
I think. HP DV5052EA  laptop. Radeon 200M graphics,  Turion64 processor. 
x86_64 kernel.
Suspend worked in Jaunty, as long as I didn't try to suspend twice in succession. 
I didn't stay with karmic long enough to test, now in lucid it's fully broken - enters suspend state, on resume
I sometimes see HD activity, but no reset to monitor, no keyboard function, no response to power key. 
No wireless, not responding to ping.
Hard power-down needed.
Something seems to get into a loop,  at least fan comes on which is unusual without intense CPU activity.
