HI,
So some of you are wondering what was the status with inotify and
Ubuntu's kernel. Well wonder no more.
On friday, rml released version 0.20 of inotify. I spent most of the
weekend trying to get it compile properly and running with our version
of 2.6.10.
In this version of inotify, inotify is a complete re-write of the API
and fixes some locking issues that the previous version inotify had.
When rml relased 0.20 he released a version for 2.6.8, 2.6.11-mm, and
2.6.11.1. This caused a little problem since we are not using any of
these kernel's for hoary. What I had to do was use the 2.6.8 version
and pick out bits from 2.6.11.1, to get it compile properly. I also
had to redo our patches that enables and disables inotify.
I have been testing inotify along with tseng and we both havent had
any problems with the new version. Gamin is behaving properly and when
I plug in my USB jump drive I did not get any oopses.
If you wish you can test out inotify 0.20 by going to:

chuck
