Reducing USB2.0 bus speed from 480mbps to 12mbps in system BIOS eliminates
freeze.  However, this is not a good workaround as it results in the USB bus
being useless for transferring large files.

Motherboard is a Asus P4C-800 Deluxe.  Problem only occurs in linux.
