Ubuntu (kubuntu) | kde
Summary: KDE maximized screen should be moveable/resizeable by
default
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Keywords: kubuntu
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P3
Component: kde
AssignedTo: debzilla at ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: ar018 at yahoo.com
QAContact: kubuntu-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com
By Kubuntu 5.04 defaults,
kcontrol -> Desktop -> Window Behavior : "Move" Tab :
[ ] Allow moving and resizing of maximized windows
this checkbox is unselected. So it is impossible to move/resize a maximized window.
However there are certain scenarios where being able to move a maximized window is
needed:
1. A given application opens in maximized (possibly locked) window,
2. It doesn't fit in the screen, and can't scale down to screen size, so its crucial
buttons are out of sight. There are many buggy apps (particularly closed source
multi-platform ones) which can show such behavior.
The result is a locked and partially accessible application window. In such a case
the only thing left to do (AFAIK) is grabbing the window by [Alt]+[LeftButton] and
dragging it so as to access to the [OK] / [Back] / [Accept] / [Cancel] etc. buttons
which are usually towards the bottom of the window.
If the user is newbie and doesn't know about this kcontrol setting, then he gets
stuck in such cases.
