It seems to be a matter of loading the usb and mouse drivers in a different order.
This is the mouse part of my /etc/X11/xorg.conf:
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Configured Mouse"
Driver "mouse"
Option "CorePointer"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2"
Option "Emulate3Buttons" "true"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection
And the optical Logitech mouse is completely frozen when starting kdm (I'm using Kubuntu 5.04).
When removing all the usb and mouse drivers and probing them in a different order the mouse
starts working without any problems:
rmmod ohci_hcd
rmmod ehci_hcd
rmmod psmouse
rmmod mousedev
modprobe evdev
modprobe psmouse #(the mouse will be explicitely recognized on /dev/input/mice)
modprobe ohci_hcd
modprobe ehci_hcd
As I don't know how to force the kernel to load modules in an arbitrary order I've written a little
startup script /etc/rc2.d/S20zzzkdmmouse being called right before the /etc/rc2.d/S21kdm script.
