How about a user-driven (KDE-) preferences package repository?

Despite the apparent lack of feasibility of a shared settings repository, I
think the point is good that the defaults shipped with kubuntu aren't
particularly inspiring. What about shipping with kommando set up with a good
set of defaults, or the katapult thing, whatever it's called? Or using two
panels instead of one? Or putting the panel on the side, or the top, or...?
Not saying any of these is the perfect idea, but given that kubuntu ships w/
pretty stock KDE defaults it doesn't seem like these kind of questions have
been bandied around. There's no reason that kubuntu needs to look like
windows; it should arguably be interpretable by a windows user, but as long
as the "first time user wizard" has sufficient explanation on the basic
features, most people should be able to get up and running quickly. Is there
a user interface group, specifically for kubuntu? I think it would be nice
to set up a group of power users and graphic designers, and come up with an
awe-inspiring default UI.
