Update help Kubuntu 7.04 Fiesty Fawn

My taskbar says there are 5 updates available but when I ask for these
updates I am shown this message :-

" Another process is using the packaging system database (probably
some other Adept application or apt-get or aptitude). Please close the
other application before using this one."

I do not know which process is in use and also do not know how to disable it.

Please someone be kind enough to advise.
