Try editing GRUB to boot Kubuntu without the splash screen (Turn on
comp, highlight Kubuntu, hit 'e' to edit the boot options, and then
remove the option that says something about "splash" or replace it
with "nosplash").  Now you should be able to see where your comp is
hanging during boot.
