I did that. It stopped the splash screen from being
displayed, but I still got no text messages. However, it
did get me to see the boot menu and I used the safe boot
mode, it ran fsck, I responded to some fixes and now it
seems ok again. So you did help, thanks.
I am happy with Kubuntu, because despite a few problems such
as this, every time it had got fixed relatively simply.
I've even managed a couple of times using the on-line docs
with specific commands to type in.
