You can definitely try that.  Don't even have to reconfigure anything.  Just 
switch out the conf files and restart X, or KDM, as necessary.  If it doesn't 
work, you're not out any money.  Unless you're an idiot.  (Hey, I'll sell you 
my xorg.conf file for $50, or if you're really stupid, for $500, and if 
you're a total moron, for $15,000.  Please buy my xorg.conf file for $15.000!  
I'll be your most bestest friend forever and ever, and I'll even drive to 
your house and fix your X config personally.  What a bargain!)
