Hello,
I recently purchased this Wireless PCI Adapter and physically installed it
on my Kubuntu 6.06 harddisk installed system. I started the Kubuntu system
but the system did not progress beyond the step "loading drivers". I than
thought that not all the drivers where installed during the installation
from the Kubuntu 6.06 Live CD, to keep the installation small.
I than tried to start with the Kubuntu 6.06 Live CD but the same problem
occured at precisely the same step "loading drivers".
I physically removed the Wireless PCI Adapter from the box and everything
works correctly as before.
On the internet I found out that the same Wireless PCI Adapter has changed
chipset from Atheros to Realtek RTL8185L.
At the smc.com URL I find only the Windows driver
SMCWPCI-G DRIVER 4.0.0.167.
At the realtek.com.tw URL I find the following driver for Linux
RTL8185_Linux_1010.0531.2006.tar.gz/
The readme out of the tar.gz file is difficult for me as a Linux beginner
with some command prompt experience.
What can I do to overcome this problem? Is there a Kubuntu Howto available
to use ndiswrapper with the windows driver or a Howto to install a driver
from the RTL8185_Linux_1010.0531.2006.tar.gz/ file.
The known details of the SMC Wireless PCI Adapter are:
The Brandname of your device SMC
The name/number of the specific device SMCWPCI-G EU
The series/revision number T165110613
The manufacturer and device ID SMC Networks, Taiwan
The manufacturer chipset that's in the device Realtek
The name/number of the chipset in the device RTL8185L
The connector-type: PCI
Wlan-type: IE802.11 g/b
Any suggestion what to do now?
.
