If you need it to solve your problem the following link has adapters available 
to connect ATA and SATA drives.  I didn't do a very big search to get best 
prices, only to know it is available.  Another possibility is a Crossover 
connector.  One end is wired for your network connector on the back of your 
computer and the other is cross wired to connect to another computer to obtain 
a direct connection between two computers.

I am not very experienced, so I did not have success with Samba, fish, ssh.  I 
am sure they work well, but I got frustrated and tried my idea.  It worked and 
just took a few minutes installation time to install the ATA Drive.  I was 
fortunate to have a slot on the MB to attach it too, but If I hadn't, I 
probably would have tried an adapter.  Anyway the important thing is to 
protect the data.  Good Luck.
