In the BIOS make sure to change "installed OS" from "WinXP" to "DOS". It 
seems like there is a problem to use the RTL8139 ethernet simultaneously 
with the CardBus because they share the same IRQ.

I do not know wheterh is changes things now after years since suse 8.1, 
but you can always try.
