I would like to introduce my lists of things to do for kde4
to be ready for me.
When a system/program/... change version for a version upper,
I expect the upper version to do ALL the previous version
was doing, maybe do it better, maybe faster, and
then add something; then, you have the next version.
From Kde3 to Kde4 it is not the case.
The complete weel, including the frame, was totally redesigned
from the blank page.
As Qt3 was a follower of Qt2 or Qt1,
and Qt4 was something else.
THE LIST.
- Konqueror - it was in kde3 the better program on my machine
in kde4 it is horrible, Why loose a masterpiece like this?
- context menus everywhere - They are just missing in kde4 in
more places that I can enumerate here.
- speed and simplicity - The kde4 new very beautiful look,
just suck all the power of the machine, and almost
every program runs slower or the same, sometimes faster,
for no immediate simplicity addon, and sometimes much
more complexity to follow and make divination on the
availables tasks.
- version numbering - in kde3 I had a complete and functionnal desktop
from the kde-3.1 version. In kde4 , we are at kde-4.2 or 4.3
and we are far from a usable desktop. at this numbering way
we are to have a kde4 full functionnal version around 4.8.5
THE EXCUSE.
I do not want to alienate the kde4 developpers and other
contributers and lovers, but you have to admit it is not as functionnal
as the 3.5.10 version.
You did a beautiful task of polishing this project, but it was not
ready for immediate consumption. It is a less complete alternative
that a kde3 desktop. Sorry.
It begins to be, at 4.3, a less-complete but usable alternative to kde3.
You are on the right way with kde4, and hope to be able to use it soon,
in my everyday work, and do as much, maybe more, than I do now with Kde3.
I hope this day will come soon.
