kubuntu 9.10 - No X after Kubuntu splash

I am not sure if this is exactly the problem you are having, but the 
splash screen appears to hang after the kubuntu progress bar. I will 
take about 3 to 5 minutes (yes, really) before the the system kicks in. 
If you have set passwordless autologin, this may be the cause of this 
problem. Refer my bug report....

To workaround this, after getting into the system, (yes, wait 5 
minutes), turn off passwordless autologin (system settings, 
convenience,...).


If this is not the problem, it could be a usplash issue, at grub 
command, edit out quiet and splash and boot.

If it is a kdm boot problem, at the hanging part, alt+ctl+F2, and login 
  in text mode.
sudo /etc/init.d/kdm start     <or>
sudo /etc/init.d/kdm restart


If it is a bad disk problem,
sudo fsck
(careful! make sure your partition is not mounted, if warning message 
comes out, don't proceed, use live cd to do this to make sure partition 
is not mounted)
