As it happens sometimes I found the solution after googling around, in a
ubuntuforums thread.
You can find kernels that are mainline here:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/
I downloaded the following packages:
linux-headers-2.6.31-02063113-generic_2.6.31-02063113_i386.deb
linux-headers-2.6.31-02063113_2.6.31-02063113_all.deb
linux-image-2.6.31-02063113-generic_2.6.31-02063113_i386.deb
then did sudo dkgi -i *.deb from konsole in the download directory and
rebooted chosing the new/old kernel
experiences so far: faster boot once you are in KDE, no funny "hangs"
like I get in Lucid kernel
Hibernate working perfectly (only reboots in lucid kernel)
suspend works better but still issues w usb etc
powertop reports far less diskwrites and more solutions (like sata link
management etc) and I will try battery times more when I have more time
to play around
an indicator for charging battery I never even saw before came to light..
All in all: better
still damned flicker on vga-out though (works perfect in Win7 so not
hardware fault).
Note I can not go UP in kernel as drivers for wireless bail out every
time I try (have tried 3 times now I think).
I will stay on this until I can try Maverick beta or rc. To me Lucid
seems to be "off target", at least for desktop and especially laptop.

Sinclair
