Latest updates for 12.10

I just did an apt-get update followed by apt-get dist-upgrade. There was a whole bunch of KDE 
stuff and after the upgrade, and logging out and back in again, all my desktop settings vanished! 
I was left with a brand new desktop as if I had just done a clean install (or renamed my .kde 
directory).

WARNING: Make a backup of your .kde directory before doing the update/upgrade.
I now have to rebuild my desktop back to the way I had it before :-(
