It greatly helps if you load "ark" from synaptic.  It is an
(un)archiver.  With it you can extract file from .tar and .gz compressed
files to a directory and from there install the program if it is
possible.  Sometimes it won't work, .deb (debian files) are more
compatible with different architectures.
