Launchpad Report for 2006-01-13 (revno 2922)

Here's a report of changes for the second week of January. This is up to
revision 2992, which was rolled out into production Launchpad yesterday.

Important user-visible features or fixes are marked with exclamation
marks; other highlights marked with a star.

Highlights
==========
Highlights of the week are the Ubuntu Malone migration, a performance
fix to Rosetta, small UI improvements to a very large number of pages in
Launchpad, and new functionality for the error reporting service. 

James Henstridge deserves mention for being responsible a lot of the
work that stood out this week.

Malone
======
! The migration of bugs from Ubuntu's Bugzilla instance to Malone was
  successfully enacted; Malone is now Ubuntu's official bugtracker. This
  drives a lot of traffic to Launchpad, and also makes the Launchpad
  team more directly in the service of the Ubuntu team.
- The Javascript expander was fixed to also work in Safari (jamesh)
- Sourcepackage no longer has a maintainer field (bug 5485, bradb)
- A broken link to the assignee on the bug summary page was fixed (bug
  3712, bradb)
- The Bugzilla importer now copes with aliases correctly (jamesh)
- The 'New' bug status' color now contrasts better with the highlight
  color  (bug 3557, mpt)

Rosetta
=======
* An important performance fix concerning Rosetta's suggestions feature
  was implemented; this makes the translation pages much less likely to
  time out while still keeping the original functionality (bug 5751,
  carlos)
- A sizeable number of fixes were implemented to the translation import queue,
  which affects how uploads and imports are processed by Rosetta
  (carlos)

Code
====
- Minor improvements to the navigation of branches were implemented
  (mpt)

Soyuz
=====
- Viewing builds no longer causes Oops when viewing a distribution with
  no builds (consequence of bug 6431, kiko)
- Minor cleanups and renames in the Soyuz view code (daf)

Shipit
======
- Traversals on binary packages now behave correctly; we formerly had
  the bad habit of choosing the wrong package with a matching version
  (bug 3516, kiko)
- The Shipit FAQ link was updated (bug 6605, kiko)

Launchpad
=========
* Capitalization of various headings over a large number of pages was
  fixed and standardized (spec LaunchpadCapitalization, mpt)
- Page layout and width of portlets was adjusted (mpt)
- The term "visibility" is now used to refer to the ability of a bug
  being kept public or private to the subscriber list (bug 5436, mpt)
- The name "OpenPGP" is now correctly used when referring to the
  standard in Launchpad (bug 3508, mpt)
- Ubuntero is now used consistently throughout Launchpad (bug 5317, mpt)
- When joining a team (open or moderated) a feedback message is now
  provided (bug 6571, matsubara)
- Restricted links on the personal page hierarchy (under /people/foo)
  are only displayed now if you are able to actually access them (bug
  3293, gneuman)
- A number of small UI improvements were implemented: misaligned headers
  were fixed in the /distros hierarchy; notification messages, the
  whiteboard text and the sitemap were also improved (mpt).
- Poll names are correctly checked for uniqueness (bug 3068, gneuman)
- A broken link sent out in team membership notification emails was
  fixed (bug 6372, daf)
- The copyright informationw as updated (mpt)

Infrastructure
==============
* The log handling code now implements a soft timeout, which logs
  warnings when pages take too long to render (but without killing the
  page execution completely). There is also support for logging SQL
  statements issued for a request in which an error or timeout occurs
  (jamesh)
- Bzr is now tested when merges are done to Launchpad (lifeless)
- The Maintainership table is finally gone (stub)
- The batch navigation machinery now correctly copes with None as input
  (bug 6431, kiko)
